Double Chocolate Walnut Brownies

  • 1 c. (2 sticks) butter or margarine
  • 4 sq. (4 oz.) unsweetened chocolate
  • 2 c. granulated sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 c. sifted all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ c. coarsely chopped walnuts
  • 1 (6 oz.) pkg. semi-sweet chocolate pieces

In medium saucepan melt butter and chocolate squares over moderate heat. Remove from heat. Gradually beat in sugar with a wooden spoon until combined. Add 1 egg at a time, beating well after each egg. Stir in vanilla. Gradually add flour, mixing, well. Stir in 1 cup walnuts. Spread mixture in a greased 9 x 13 x 2-inch pan. Combine remaining walnuts with chocolate pieces. Sprinkle over top of brownies, pressing down lightly. Bake 350° for 35 minutes or until top springs back when lightly pressed with fingertip. Yield: 24 squares, 200 calories per 2-inch squares.
