Welcome to the CF Lungs digital model designed to educate patients, parents and caregivers about the anatomical progression of CF, specifically highlighting the impact of Pseudomonas aeruginosa in the lungs.
The illustrations and the High Resolution Computed Tomography (HRCT) scans in this teaching aid show CF lungs at different FEV1 values for pulmonary function tests (PFTs). While the illustrations are real, and the scans are from actual patients, you cannot look at anyone's FEV1 value and, at any one point in time, know what their lungs will look like.
This aid is designed to show that worsening lung function has real life and lung consequences, and not to show exact lung conditions at a particular FEV1 value.
