Welcome to the Breathe Song Event, where three U.S. singers with CF join the late Matt Scales in an inspiring remix of the English rocker’s song, “Breathe.” Matt’s song explores the uncertainty of living with cystic fibrosis, and the hope that colored his days. Breathe
By Matt Scales

Through my eyes
I see it
Staring at me
All the time.
So I wish
That it would leave
My body.

I wish I could breathe
Like you, oh, breathe
I know the answer’s out there.
So won’t you help me, please?

Chorus:
Then one day I’ll breathe
I’ll breathe, I’ll breathe
I’ll breathe like you.

Then one day I’ll breathe
I’ll breathe, I’ll breathe
I’ll breathe like you.

I see the future.
It seems so clear.
One day I’ll breathe like you.

Then I think that
I’m all right
But it keeps changin’
Like the weather.

It’s not up to me
How I feel
How I feel
Inside.

I wish I could breathe
Like you, oh, breathe
I know the answer’s out there.
Won’t you help me, please?

Chorus:
Then one day I’ll breathe
I’ll breathe, I’ll breathe
I’ll breathe like you.

Then one day I’ll breathe
I’ll breathe, I’ll breathe
I’ll breathe like you.

I see the future.
It seems so clear.
One day I’ll breathe like you.

I wish I could breathe
Like you, oh, breathe
I know the answer’s out there.
Won’t you help me…please?

Cause one day I’ll breathe
I’ll breathe, I’ll breathe
I’ll breathe like you.

Then one day I’ll breathe
I’ll breathe, I’ll breathe
I’ll breathe like you.

I see the future.
It seems so clear.
One day I’ll breathe like you…like you.

“Matt loved being the center of attention, like Josh and Tess and Rose. It’s not like they’re fighting for attention, it’s just that they want to make the most of the life they’ve got.”

“The words of ‘Breathe’ are just simple, everyday words that tell the story of what Matt wanted – to be normal, to breathe normally, to be able to get up in the morning and go play football.”

“Matt and Amy started going out as two young kids. As flamboyant as he was, she’s totally the opposite – quiet as can be.”

“This has been unbelievable. Matt left his mark, there’s no doubt whatsoever, but it’s just about to get bigger.”

“The message of ‘Breathe’ is living with cystic fibrosis, trying to get through it, and wondering if a cure is ever going to come.”
